About Us
Nestled between Ambika Kalna and Bainchi railway stations, is the underprivileged village of Tehatta which offers abundant areas of lush green rice fields all around. The village has a remarkably rich cultural background but unfortunately literacy was not within easy reach of the people. The population largely comprises of the rural farmers who toil under difficult situations for daily livelihood. Given such a context, the local erudite people earnestly tried to eradicate illiteracy from the vicinity and bring about progress and development by providing them education. Amidst tremendous challenges, the first step towards this benevolent act was the establishment of the Tehatta Sailendra Smriti Sangha, a local village library that gave free access to books to the people. Later Tehatta Free Primary School and Tehatta High School were established to promote proper institutional education among the masses. The latest glorious addition to the list was the establishment of Tehatta Sadananda Mahavidyalaya in 2013 to enable the youth to get access to higher education. Today the college stands as the only higher educational institution in Kalna Block II division and is in the process of making rapid development and progress in spreading education.
Remembering Nelson Mandela’s famous saying that, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, the college has a vision of imparting value based education to the youth of the vicinity and beyond for a holistic development in order to sustain the people and enable them to change the socio-economic scenario of their surroundings. With this aim, the college has already completed a decade long journey and is continuously striving to provide a better tomorrow. Being a developing college, evidently we have various challenges to overcome and while progress is made yet substantial work is left to be done. Presently, the college offers courses in Arts stream, although Science and Commerce courses are likely to commence soon. We have nine disciplines in total where Honours course is offered in six disciplines and other subjects have the General course. The total number of teaching staff is 19 with 9 Assistant Professors in U.G.C posts and 10 SACT teachers. The campus comprises of a spacious area of approximate 5 acres and has two building blocks and a wide open ground in between. We also have a resourceful library with digital catalogue and a seminar hall. Smart classes are conducted in ICT enabled classrooms. Students are also encouraged to participate in regular sports and the college ground has a badminton court where students can practice regularly. We have provision for online admission and the students can avail various governmental schemes designed for their benefit.
In the words of Democritus, “Nature and Education are somewhat similar. The latter transforms man and in doing so creates a second nature”. Nature is therefore vital towards promoting Education and the college tries to provide a natural habitat to the students encouraging them to appreciate Nature. The campus thus has many tall evergreen trees with a host of medicinal plants and even a pond to sustain the biodiversity of the area. Best effort is made by the college authorities and teaching staff to provide a healthy and eco-friendly ambience to the young learners to joyfully receive education and emerge as responsible and self-reliant citizens of the nation.
