About Us

Since long before the dawn of Independence the erudite people among the depressed, persecuted and toiling masses of Tehatta and her adjacent villages have earnestly tried to eradicate the cause of illiteracy from the locality and to enlighten them with the blessing of higher education. The initial steps, now recognized as prime, were the foundation of Tehatta Sailendra Smriti Sangha, a village Library, a small Hospital, a Post Office and of course Tehatta Free Primary School and Tehatta High School. The latest and glorious inclusion in the list was Tehatta Sadananda Mahavidyalaya, (Estd. 2013) a coeducational Govt. aided Degree College, affiliated to University of Burdwan.

The aims and objectives of each institution vary significantly from others, depending upon the need of the soil where it grows and the vision and mission of the authority who comes forward to steer it to the new directions, offering it a constructive and positive leadership. The learners, the staff, the teachers, the governing Body, the law making and administrative authorities – each sector has many things to contribute, and fortunately all of them have joined their hands together to promote this baby institution to its commendable maturity within a short tenure.

The Honourable Chief Minister, Govt. of West Bengal has kept her promise by honouring the plea of the locality for sanction of a degree college, the only one of the Block, Kalna II. Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal has sanctioned grants for the construction of the College Building, which is still in the making in its second phase. University of Burdwan and Higher Education Council have sanctioned permission to carry on the teaching learning process in full blaze. Honours course has been introduced in six departments. Studies in Science and commerce stream will commence soon. New staff, new teachers are joining. More will come in time. The first dream has been fulfilled. Adjacent ones are taking shape day by day. Growth is an unending ongoing process.

But what matters most at this vital moment is sincere effort along with self less, dedicated love for the institution. Time has arrived to shed off difference of opinion and move forward with the determination to upgrade the college as one of the best, among its peers, catering to the need of Higher education. If the students do not merely gather information but acquire knowledge and with a scientific understanding, technical skill base and loving responsibility go beyond the self and care for others in the locality, in the society, especially,  the low, the suffering, the marginalized,  – the toil of today and yesterday,  will find some meaning.
